Hibberts Solicitors would like to congratulate Oliver Lewis on becoming a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association (ALA)
The ALA is the largest inter-professional organisation in the UK specialising in law and business of the countryside, and its Fellowship is widely recognised as the leading qualification in agricultural law. The Fellowship course is aimed at professionals with extensive specialist experience in advising rural businesses. It covers a wide range of complex legal issues, including succession planning, litigation, diversification, and farm sales and purchases.
Oliver completed the Fellowship exam in November 2025, after completing a demanding five-day preparatory course at the University of Warwick. He now joins his colleague John Gibbons as a fellow of this prestigious association, marking an important milestone in his career.
Oliver was brought up on an arable farm in Shropshire and has completed his training with the National Farmers’ Union, giving him an in-depth understanding of the farming industry and the challenges it faces. He qualified as a solicitor in December 2017 and joined Hibberts Agricultural Team in January 2018 where he advises clients on a wide range of agricultural property transactions and rural legal matters.
Commenting on his achievement, Oliver said:
“I am thrilled to have passed the ALA Fellowship exam and to be recognised as a Fellow of the Agricultural Law Association. My role as an agricultural lawyer is vastly different to the other disciplines Hibberts offers. Agricultural lawyers must consider all aspects of our clients’ farming business and their succession options, as well as understand agriculture and the challenges the sector is facing. The ALA Fellowship course has expanded my knowledge and has enabled me to provide the best-rounded advice on various legal issues.”
Oliver is a highly valued member of Hibberts’ agricultural solicitors department. His new Fellowship status will further enhance the depth of knowledge, expertise, and forward-thinking legal advice he brings to farming families, landowners, and rural businesses across Cheshire, Shropshire, and the surrounding areas.
